In another wonderful video, Dr. Wilson takes apart an amateur.
Don’t get me wrong. I respect nurses and work side by side with them every day since medical school nearly 50 years ago.
But an RN with a PhD in Education does not have the specialized training in critical appraisal of medical literature to know how to determine study quality and correctly interpret the data, and it shows in this video.
I shudder to think what would have happened to a medical student or resident physician in a post graduate medical education program who presented a crappy metanalysis with flawed interpretation. My God, you would get eaten alive, chewed up and spit out sideways.
One does not know what one does not know. The problem with physicians and non physicians lacking training in Infectious Diseases and critical appraisal is that they can’t discern the subtle technicalities that separate high quality studies from poor quality studies.
Throughout the pandemic lots of well intentioned and bright people who don't understand what critical appraisal is, thought they could be COVID experts and interpret literature by applying their knowledge of IT or engineering.
It doesn’t work that way. Not only is critical appraisal training required to be even minimally competent to analyze medical literature, there are specific aspects of critical appraisal necessary when interpreting infectious disease research. I D. research has its own unique requirements which are learned during an infectious disease fellowship.
People really should respect the value of education and training in any discipline. No matter what field your expertise is in, someone with no training is not going to match your expertise.
We need to respect the world class infectious disease doctors who publish quality research in elite medical journals. That’s who we should be listening to, not a nurse with a PhD in education or an economist with MD but no post graduate medical education.
If you disagree then I suppose anyone can do your job too.
Why is it that the more jabs that are administered, the more people die? Please explain that oh learned one!
